What is Agile and how is it different form Prince2?
PRINCE2 is focussed on the management of project and has emphasis on the governance, management products, and processes for doing the project management work and how work should be delegated, monitored, reported and escalated. PRINCE2 does NOT cover the product development aspect. It provides guidance on how the interface between the Project Manager and the Team manager should work. But does not elaborate how the Team Manager does requirement analysis, product development and testing. Since this is a specialist work, PRINCE2 has left it out from the scope. Agile Project Management handbook on the other hand talks about how to develop a product from a scratch, the roles required in product development, the deliverables of the development team, key practices to enable the team to deliver the product fast and respond to changing priorities of the business. You can think of like the Managing Product Delivery is where PRINCE2 fits in.

Are there any prerequisites before taking the course?
No pre-requisites as such for Foundation. The practitioner exam however requires the candidate to have passed the APMG Foundation certification exam. The APMG certification courses are for competency and skill development and therefore are open to anyone who wishes to learn the concepts without any prior understanding and experience.

What is DSDM Atern?
DSDM stands for Dynamic Systems Development Model. DSDM is the oldest agile approach, launched in 1995. The Consortium is the guardian of DSDM, the Agile Project Framework and Full Delivery Method that provides best practice guidance for on time, in budget delivery of projects in any Business Sector. DSDM serves their members and the international community by providing products and services that support organisations and individuals in their learning, adoption and application of DSDM for Agile Project Management and Delivery. APMG have collaborated with DSDM to bring the APMG Agile Project Management qualification. The DSDM Atern book is available for free at www.dsdm.org

How does agile reduce traditional project management risk?

  • Agile reduces the common traditional project risks of late deliveries by fixing the date
  • It also reduces the risk of business not knowing what they want by using an iterative approach to development
  • It reduces the risk of change request by taking continuous feedback from business stake holders and engaging them throughout the development
  • It also reduces the risk of losing market opportunities by releasing products in an incremental manner

How does APMG’s Agile Project Management scheme differ from PMI’s?

  • APMG Agile talks and discusses the team structure. Their roles and responsibilities and the engagement of various stakeholders whereas, the PMI-ACP does not specifically cover the roles, responsibilities and structure
  • APMG Agile is more like a prescriptive method wherein you know what happens next, who does it and what is credited and the suggested content. On the other hand, PMI-ACP focuses on the tools n techniques, the how n why and the essential skills required. It’s more like guidance
  • The certification for PMI-ACP comes for PMI and is recognised in U.S. and the Agile certification comes from APMG and is recognised in Europe and Australia

How is Agile training structured?
ProjectingIT offers a blended learning model. You can choose from 1) eLearning self paced training access for flexible learning (Coming soon……..), 2) Enrol for virtual online instructor led training or 3) attend a classroom training program or attend all.

Who can take up Agile? / Who would benefit from Agile training?
Anybody who is involved in projects including Project Managers, Executives, Business Stake Holders, Users, Team Leaders, Developers, Testers and anyone who want to learn

APMG Agile Vs Scrum:

  • Scrum is more focused on software development whereas Agile PM is for any industry.
  • Scrum discusses the practices in development team but offers flexibility
  • It does not talk about governance, business case, project management and the big picture
  • Agile PM integrates project n product development and brings together management, business and technical perspective together

Can we just take the training and not take the exam or vice-versa?
Of course you can just take the training without taking the exams. However please note that the certification is in demand in the industry and adds value to your profile. The employers are seeking professionals with not just knowledge but also credentials to provide confidence. It increases the marketability of individual seeking good opportunities. The exams can also be taken directly, but once again, it helps to complete the course within a smaller time window and also pass it in the first try. This helps you understand the concepts quickly and learn tricks on how to approach the exams and clear it.

What are the related courses after completion of Agile?
Scrum, PMI-ACP, Lean Six Sigma as they are all from the same family of Agile and they provide techniques n practices that you can find useful to manage your product delivery.
